Mepxy Max

MEPXY MAX

BY Ash Chain
Created with Canson Drawing 220 paper and Mepxy Markers

Hey everyone! SO let's get down to down to business. Mepxy Markers are a must in your artist satchel (Indiana Jones had one) as well as a good drawing pad and a few basic art liners. In this blog I will be showing you how I created this piece with those three products. Enjoy!

I first start out with a very loose pencil drawing on tracing paper which then gets traced onto Canson drawing 220 paper using whichever liners your heart so desires. I generally use a 0.3 and a 0.8 to make the lines pop, giving them an "edge"

Then start laying down your colours. It's always good (I find) to have your colours already laid out in an art journal with their colour codes. I use the Canson art journal as the paper is similar to that of the Canson drawing paper so my colours will come out the same as what I have marked. When it comes to blending I lay down the darkest colour first then go over it with the lighter colour. Blend until you are satisfied. I use brush markers for majority of the shading.

You can see in the above image that sometimes I don't totally blend an edge of a dark colour out as it can shape a contour and create great contrast. You can also see the for the smoke I have outlined it in pencil so that I can rub it out later.

It's amazing how much depth you can create with just using greys. For this drawing I used the Mepxy "Cool Grey" 12 colour set.

Here you can see how I use the different colours to create a really contrasted look for the candle. I used three colours and I used them in the order of dark, medium then to light.

And here you have it. To add a finishing touch to the drawing I used a white gel pen (you can you white out even) the put a little shine on the gems and character to the berries. I also used a dark and a light grey around the edges of the drawing to frame it. I hope you can take some knowledge away from this little tutorial. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

The colours I used:
C10, C32, G00, G02, G99, L03, L25, L67, M29, M34, N05, N18, N21, N27, N51, N53, O27, P04, P13, P31, R20, R29, V09, V15, W04, W13, W23, W25, W31, W37, W49, Y19, Y26, CG07, CG06, CG05, CG04, CG01

So the Mepxy Markers work well on the drawing paper not just the bleed proof paper - good to know.
