Hi there again. Today I'm sharing a cute little project that I made for my son's girlfriend for her birthday. I asked her what she wanted and she said paint me a cute girl!

So here is my guide to painting a little cute canvas with some pebeo paints and some crayons and modelling paste. There's all the requirements in the guide.

INKTOBER Sun Goddess & Schmincke Inks with Michelle

Continuing  on the INKTOBER theme I have explored with some more ways you can use the Schmincke Inks. These inks are so yummy, the colours are so gorgeous.

Guest DT Geri McLeod- Schmincke Inks

Geri with you again today. :-)

This time I wanted to share with you how wonderful the Schmincke Aero Colour inks are.

I was at the Brisabane craft show and saw them at Jane Davenport's store. I bough a set of 5

with white black magenta yellow and blue. 

The first thing I noticed was how intense the colours are. I mean knock your socks of awesome bright and beautiful colour that makes you gasp. They are little bottles full of joy.

I got a pack of empty dauber bottles from Dick Blick. I put in 5-10 drops of the Schmincke Aero Colour ink  and then filled them up to half full with water.

The colour is still really bright even when diluted in the water and I thought I would go through an old art journal and just add a bit of new colour here and there. The yellow is like sunshine and happiness and immediately lights up a page.

I especially loved when the yellow blended into the magenta and you got a beautiful orangey pink. The inks melt together beautifully.

Using the dauber bottles makes fantastic backgrounds. I love that the water in them makes them so fluid and they flow on so easily. They work well with the liquitex Gesso I had used on the old book page. They resist coloured pencil and this was a really nice effect. I also used

neon spray paint with stencils and then put the ink over the top and really loved the bright ink colours.

I had an altered book with a  white gesso layer and did a basic sketch using a coloured pencil. I then used the Aero Ink in the dauber bottle to add colour for quick backgrounds. I loved using it and love the colours. 

I then got my Schmincke watercolours out and added some more detail in flesh tones. I could also go in with colour pencils  and white sharpie next. The water-colour set is from Jane Davenports shop Institute of Cute. They are her special hand picked colours and I love them.

The Schmincke watercolours are probably the best art supply I have ever bought. They have incredible pigment and the colours are bright and beautiful and are a pure joy to use. A little bit goes a very long way because they are excellent quality.

I was pleased with these dauber bottles as they are a very handy way to use ink and the quality of the ink is so excellent you only need a few drops with water. I'm looking forward to lots of other experiments with the Schmincke aero ink.

GDT Aurora Davison Using Mepxy Markers and Schmincke Inks

Hi everyone,

 This is my next free tutorial using the wonderful Mepxy Brush Markers and The Schmincke Aerocolor Ink and refillable Liner.

  For this project I used a 10 x 12" primed canvas board which I covered with old sheet music (found in a second hand book store) using matte medium and allowed it to dry. Next I used a light pink/coral ink on the edges and while still wet added Pebeo Studio Acrylic paint in Titanium White and used an old plastic card to lightly cover the board so the sheet music shows through the paint.

   

  This is not meant as a step by step drawing lesson but gives you an idea of how she was drawn. For the face I started with a circle and marked the centre and a line 1/3 down from it - this is the eye line. Next drew the curve of the face (centre) down to the chin line and added the neckline. Next I drew in the side eye and the side line of the face. In this image the cheek is too far down and I later gave her a 'cheeklift'. Then I added in the extra features. The mouth is only partially drawn as it is somewhat hidden in a 3/4 face.

The finished drawing with hair added and the guide lines erased. The cheek on the side has been lifted also.

Hint: Take a photo of your drawing as it helps to see the proportions better - hence why the cheek line was altered as it was 'wrong' at first.

Image transferred to the board using tracing paper.

Colour in the skin with Mepxy Brush Marker W31 - Bridal Skin. Do not worry too much about any streaking, this will be smoothed out later.

Colour in the mouth and corners of the eye with Mepxy Brush Marker R02 - Light Peach.

Colour in the contours/shadows of the face and neck with Mepxy Brush Marker N01 - Wood Ash.

Further darken using Mepxy Brush Marker N05 - Sand Storm.

Now take a make-up sponge dampened with some rubbing alcohol (easily bought at chemists and supermarkets) and gently smooth out all the streaks. She now has an almost ghostly but ethereal look to her.

Colour in the eyes with Mepxy Brush Marker L95 - Pale Olive and add (remove) highlights with the Mepxy Brush Marker 00 - Colorless.

Draw in the hair highlights with Mepxy Brush Marker N05 - Sand Storm.

Colour in the rest of the hair, and darken the eyes and eyebrows with Mepxy Brush Marker W37 - Chocolate.

Again smooth the streaks with rubbing alcohol on a damp (not wet) make-up sponge.

The rubbing alcohol can also be used to completely wipe the image away in case you wish to start over.

The image was further enhanced with Faber-Castell Gelatos and Prismacolor Pencils.

The white highlights where drawn with a Schmincke Aerocolor Liner #3 (it has a 2-6mm chisel tip which allows fine and thick lines). I filled this with Schmincke Aerocolor 101 - Supra-White.

I finished the painting with stencilling in various shades of Pebeo Studio acrylics.

100 Circles in 100 days project

Hello it's Peta here again on the blog today.

As part of my study into art therapy I have embarked on a project to create 100 circles in 100 days. The idea of this exercise is to encourage students to start using a circle a day, a simple shape, to represent how they are feeling each day. The circles evolve into a beautiful canvas over 100 days and before you know it students have a wonderful artwork that represents their life over the last 100 days!

Currently I have a bunch of students from all over the world doing this project with me right now. I'm loving using my pebeo acrylic paints and setaskrib markers to work wonders on the canvas. Here is where I am at right now.

I'm finding that sometimes i don't get a circle completed because i'm waiting for paint to dry! However, I know what I'm intending to do so as you can see i've started whiting out some circles to use as a background for the days painting or drawing. I've also used to scraps of fabric so far and on one it has words that meant something to me on the day i glued it on the canvas and the other was blank calico that i then used my Setaskrib marker to write on as i wanted words rather than pictures for the days' circle.

You can vary the sizes and orientation of the circles. Yesterday i used a felt round pot holder to paint an impression on the canvas. I do this because I love tea and i often sit my teapot on something similar to this.
